I walk through life and stuff just happens. I try to plan things out, but I have learned that everything I planned never quite worked out the way I planned it. Life rarely works that way, so this is the story of my life, and how everything is not quite what I was planning.

Brandjacking

There is a friend of mine who is being Brandjacked. My friend runs a media brand that she has worked hard to create. And she created it from the ground up, which is even more admirable. For this blog let’s just call it Ki[squared] Entertainment, and leave names out of this. She created a twitter chat that many people attend and is full of valuable information. She puts together topics, times the questions to fill the hour, and is a great moderator by knowing when to let the conversation go, or when to shift it a little. It is a craft that not many can do well, and clearly she has put in her time to perfect this craft. The work, the name, the brand are all hers. Then one day some clowns decided they were going to take this  twitter chat and have a live stream video of the chat as they read the tweets. They are trying to take a branded product from Ki[squared] Entertainment and make it their own. Which is a dick thing to do, but it gets worse. They are really bad at it. They can’t read well, they cannot keep up with the conversation, and when they try to add their own commentary the conversation has shifted. It is terrible. In fact, I called it shitty, which I shouldn’t have, apologized for the language, but it is, so my apology wasn’t sincere. So you have 3 guys, doing a web show, about a twitter chat, and the show has its own chat sidebar. Yes, a show about a chat, with its own chat that isn’t about something they produced. The fact that neither these three guys can read the tweets well, just adds the the horribleness of this show. Yes, the show itself is just awful, but then there is the factor of the idea is just biting off the idea that is someone else’s product, and they are trying to pass it off as their own. Luckily, the person that runs Ki[squared] Entertainment is much better natured than me, because if it was me in that situation, I would have told them to stop using my name to attempt to advance a terrible product. By the way Ki[squared] Entertainment does her shows with just one person. These clowns cannot even do it with three. That is an insult, and, in my opinion, sullies the hard work that was put into the original product. I cannot tell her how to handle her brand, although I wish I could. I would shut that down immediately, and there is no way I would ever reference it. I can kind of see why she doesn’t stop it; imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but at least imitate gentlemen, not,half-ass produce a terribly done knock off. It is not my place to say anything to these guys because, ultimately, it is not my brand but someone has to let them know they are stealing and doing it quite poorly. If you’re reading this Ki[squared] Entertainment, please give me the green light. They need to be taught a lesson. Unless, of course, you want me to do a podcast, about the webshow with its own chat, about the twitter chat of a product I have nothing to do with. Damn, that would be so meta.
